Helping Others

If you're in the market for a new career, you've probably been giving some thought to what makes you happy - happier than working with a flanger in a factory, at any rate. For many people, the times when they feel best about themselves come just after they have helped someone else. If you would like to have these warm fuzzy feelings about yourself on a more permanent basis, you could consider a career that allows you to assist others. There are many different ways to do this. This article should help you figure out which one best suits you.

Some people derive satisfaction from helping others and they want everyone to know it. If this is the case with you, instead of becoming a dentist in Mississauga who occasionally does free work for immigrants, you could become a member of one of the more visibly heroic professions. Soldiers, police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and medical doctors all fall into this category. Their jobs are to help people, either by defending, protecting, rescuing, or saving lives, and everyone knows it, so they're generally regarded as heroes.

Of course, not everyone is able to take eight years to study medicine or climb ladders into burning buildings. If you fall into this category, you can still help people in your own way. Some Toronto CGA accountants help uncover fraud schemes that deprive people of their savings. Teachers help their students grow into more knowledgeable, responsible people. Counselors help people who are having a difficult time move on with their lives. In these professions, it's less likely that you will receive any type of recognition for your efforts, but you'll be helping people all the same.

There are even plenty of jobs you can take that will allow you to help people even if you don't have any specialized training at all. Working at the front desk of a spa in Edmonton allows you to assist people with their bookings. If you work in a retail store you can help people find the items that they want. If you work in a public building, like the library, the permits office, or in employment insurance, you'll be helping people get what they need all day long.

The thing to remember about careers that involve dealing with other people - even ones who need help - is that sometimes things won't go right. Sometimes a patient will die and their family will be angry with you, or you'll sell someone a stereo that breaks but can't be replaced. So before you sign up with Heating Stoney Creek to repair people's broken furnaces, read a book or take a course on dealing with customers or non violent conflict resolution so you'll be prepared just in case you meet an angry customer.
