Backsplit Homes

If you are in the market for a new home you may have discovered that there are many varieties of home designs available. Often, these different types of homes are referred to by names that the average person may not understand. Some terms that are commonly confused are split-level, side-split, and back-split. When browsing Windsor real estate you will probably encounter most of these terms.

The term split level refers to a home that has more than one floor, but the second floor does not cover the entirety of the first floor. This is a very common type of house that can often be seen on the Kingston Ontario MLS. There are many different reasons why a home may have a split level design, it can be used on sloping lots to maximize the space available and it can be used simply because the homeowner wanted to have the bedrooms on a second level.

The term side-split is actually referring to a type of split level home. In a side split home you can see the split from the front of the house. This is often used in situations where there is a side sloping lot. Generally, when you enter the home there will be a staircase to the right or left that will lead to the split level. Brampton homes for sale sill often feature split level home design. In fact, the split level design is one of the most common home designs available.

A Markham real estate agent may suggest a back-split home to you. Again, the back-split home is a type of split level home. In back-split home design the split is at the back of the house and the split can be seen from the side of the home. In a back-split home the staircase will be located toward the back of the home and will lead up to the split level. Back-split homes are usually designed to take advantage of a back sloping lot.

If you are still confused about the different home types your real estate agent will be able to help you. He or she will be able to tell you which type of homes are most common in your area, and will be able to explain the advantages and disadvantages of each type of house design. For example, you might ask your Oakville real estate agent to show you both back-split and side-split homes so you can make an informed decision.
